Common sense says that you should not by a car owned previously by a Rockstar because God knows how those nutters have driven it or what they have done in it. But when it comes to collector cars, well, that’s a different story. With collector cars the Rock connection is a huge plus, which is why this 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 S owned at one time by Rod Stewart is headed to Coys at The Classic & Sports Car Show in London with an estimate of £800-900,000.
Going under the hammer at the Coys event at the end of this month, Stewart’s Miura was delivered to him on the day he was knighted. It’s a top-of-the-line P400 S in a lovely shade of blue, and it’s got everything going for it a start car needs for a brilliant performance at the auction. It’s got the history, the backstory, the rock connection, and the pristine condition and originality that is so important to collectors.
If you can’t afford Stewart’s Lamborghini Miura but still want a classic car with some sort of Rock connection, Coys is also offering a 1972 Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS formerly owned by U2 bassist Clayton. It is one of the eight right-hand-drive models in the world and it is estimated at £240-280,000. Other highlights of this sale include a 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drophead Coupe carrying an estimate of £70-80,000; a RHD 1974 Ferrari 246 GT E Series with coachwork by Scaglietti (£280-325,000); a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 with one owner from new (£525-625,000); and two Ferrari 512 BBs, including the 1977 London Motor Show car (£225-275,000).
